Honda Motorcycle History

Honda motorcycle is by far the largest motorcycle producer in the world. Started in 1948 by Soichiro Honda. Honda motorcycle started out of a necessity to provide cheap transportation to the masses after World War II. Soichiro Honda created his first Honda motorcycle using a surplus two-stroke engine designed for electric generators. Soichiro purchased 500 of these motors for cheap since nobody else had any need for them. Today Honda motorcycles continues to dominate other motorcycle makers with their innovative designs and eginering.

Some clever guy named Crazy Jerry with a lot of time on his hands has produced a diesel version of his Suzuki motorcycle. He converted his old, but still running, Suzuki GS550L into a real diesel motorcycle.

Have a look at the photo. Notice that engine !!!

It's not for the faint-hearted, but if you're interested, Jerry has produced a CD explaining in detail how he did it. The CD can be ordered on-line, and contains photos, diagrams and videos. Cost: $25. You can also download the CD.

Maybe with the way the oil barrel price is heading, having a motorcycle that runs on bio-diesel is a smart move.

Motorcycle manufacturers; start paying attention !!

If there's one thing that's sure to put paid to any chances of admiring of the breathtaking scenery along South Africa's spectacular coastline, it's a seriously fast motorcycle and a road that never seems to point in one direction for a moment longer than it takes to change gear.

Not that I'm complaining. Swapping the dour, sub-zero, overcast Midlands for azure blue skies, perfectly surfaced roads, a strong possibility of sunstroke and the chance to be among the first in the world to test a new bike, is hardly an invitation that takes too much consideration.

The fast motorcycle in question is Yamaha's latest addition to its extensive range of two-wheelers; the naked 150bhp FZ-1 and its fully-faired brother, the FZ-1 Fazer.

(Beijing Today)
Updated: 2006-04-18 11:31

Top US motorcycle producer Harley-Davidson opened its first and only authorized store in Beijing April 8.

the Beijing Harley-Davidson, operated by Beijing FHL Motorcycle Club, is located at Dongfeng Nanlu, by the North Fourth Ring Road. Three types of Harley-Davidson bikes: Touring, V-Rod and Soft Tail ¨C are on sale. The store has had around 400 visitors (half of them foreigners) since it opened, according to Shao Boming, the sales representative.

ˇ°To date, we have done around 70,000 yuan business, including selling four bikes, as well as souvenirs like wallets, glasses, hats, belts, and smallbadges.ˇ±During the interview Shao took a call from the United States. ˇ°I think that this customer is collecting Harley-Davidson souvenirs from stores in different countries,ˇ± Shao said.

Besides the motorcycles and souvenirs, the store also sells Harley-Davidson accessories and fittings, and provides customers with customizing services.

ˇ°Almost all the people buying motorcycles won't keep its original appearance and get them custozed in order to appear unique. The prices are different according to their requirements,ˇ± Shao said.ˇ°We plan to add more things in the store in the future,ˇ± said Zhao Hui, the manager, ˇ°Of course, we plan ttart chain stores. However, it depends on the business operation and the market in Beijing.ˇ±

Beijing Harley-Davidson is also getting involved with the Beijing Harley-Davidson Motorcycle club. People who have bought Harley-Davidson motorcycles will become VIP members automatically. People who have not bought a motorcycle can also join the club.

Address: North Dongfeng Road, by the North Fourth Ring Road, Chaoyang District.

People on the street seeing bikes go by and not familiar with the world of motorcycling, can sometimes be heard to say, "There goes a bunch of Hell's Angels." I've heard this many times.

We offer no disrespect to the members of the Hell's Angels by reporting this. Perhaps, in some small way, we don't mind being compared with the Hell's Angels. We may have a rebellious spirit. We may like the freedom of riding and the camaraderie of other riders. But most of us either ride alone or with small clubs of like-minded individuals. We have no innate desire to separate ourselves into a lifestyle that may ultimately bring us face-to-face with a disrespect for our own society.

The group shown here is a group of Polar Bear Grand Tour riders just about to arrive at the destination point and sign-in for one of their weekly winter runs, Lewes, DE. I happen to be a member of this organization of 500+ riders.

The terms "rider," "biker," and "motorcyclist" are thrown around a lot these days. The media almost always uses the term "biker." I prefer "motorcyclist." If in doubt, use "rider" as I did in the title to this section.
